With Week 5's match up only days away, the regular season signing period nears its Week 6 end. After a lot of
action leading up to the Detroit game, will the last week of signing bring more noise or is the team confident it
can close out the season on a high note with the players already on the roster.

"There is a great deal of young talent on this roster that is just getting better and better with each week," says
Director of Operations Brad Lyon who is now the Patriots' Interim Head Coach. "Even if we do not make any
major moves before the Week 6 dead line, the players we already have can get the job done. These athletes
have the talent and they just need to gain experience on the Minor League level for them to start reaching their
potential as a team.

Early signs point to that being true. The team has steadily improved after an early loss to London. The team
outscored the Motor Belt Division leading Indiana Warriors 14-6 over three quarters, loosing the game 24-14.
They then faced Detroit (5-3) and took them to over time in a 14-14 regulation contest.
THE TEAM
Another season and another quarterback controversy as Alan Russ recently took over the helm. Expected
started Tony Bravata took all of the first team snaps during camp but found himself unavailable for the season
after a company buyout forced his work schedule to change. This left Dave Inman and Jon Watson battling it out.
Each started one game apiece, with Watson facing Tri City in the opener and Inman taking on London during
Week 2.

The old saying of "first time shame on you, second time shame on me," rang its bell loudly though as Inman, for
the second year in a row, would fail to complete a season. "We took a gamble on Inman in 2008 after what
happened in 2007, turns out we made the wrong choice on that one," stated Director of Operations Brad Lyon.
Russ, a Wide Receiver, was then moved to QB creating depth and competition. Two strong performances later
and Russ looks to be winning the job. Watson's ability to also play safety factors into the equation as well.

This is the third time in four years that the Patriots found themselves starting a third or fourth string quarterback
by mid season. The upside to that history is in both previous cases the new quarterback wound up doing a solid
job. Steve Gauger (2005) and Robert Callahan (2007) were both slated to play other positions before winning
the quarterback duties and are tied for the Patriots' single season passing touchdown record.
AROUND THE NAFL
London and Tri City are battling it out for the Division lead as both teams are now 3-1 in the regular season.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Warriors are holding on to a slim lead over the Indianapolis Tornadoes (2-1) for the
Motor Belt Division lead while the Wisconsin Wolfpack (4-1) have shocked the Northern Conference and are
ahead of both the defending NAFL Champion Kane County Eagles (3-1) and powerhouse Racine Raiders (2-2)
in the Dells Division.
(Standings are determined by playoffs points, these are accumulated with the following formula: 4 points
for a win, 2 points for a draw, 1 point for a loss)
ON THE WIRE
A list of 16 athletes who were deactivated was released last week while the team also added several new players
including Michigan Renegades Veteran Bobby Blazevski, a Receiver who can also play Defensive Back. Those
16 Deactivated Players, along with the active 39, place the roster at 55. Under NAFL rules, teams may only have
60 athletes on contract, including those who are Deactivated. An additional 6 athletes were also released, giving
the team 5 open roster spots to work with during the upcoming last week of signing athletes. NAFL teams have
up until week 6 to sign players to an NAFL contract. Otherwise, no additional athletes may be signed unless an
emergency situation dictates it and is approved by the league.
