ISSUE INTRODUCTION
December 4, 2006

Article 42

Football class has began in Clio, Michigan this month. Patriot players and
staff are hard at work preparing for 2007 and have been in study
sessions since November. There has been an increased focus on each
athlete thoroughly understanding all aspects of not just their position, but
each position and its correlation with both the play and the offense and
defense it is used against. You can already see the athletes in camp are
picking up a better feel for the game. This emphasis on breaking down
the concepts and theories of football should help the experience level of
the team dramatically and allows the staff to place higher expectations on
player performance.
THE TEAM
The coaching search is coming to a climax after a horde of applicants
have been interviewed. In four seasons, the Patriots have started a
season with three different Head Coaches; only in the 2003 and 2004
seasons did the Patriots have the same Head Coach.

The finalist names have not been released but management has been
specific that they are looking for a coach with a strong foundation in post
High School competition. You can be confident in the fact that a good
portion of the finalists will have had college or professional coaching
experience and an impressive athletic career.
AROUND THE NAFL
A projected date of March 7 has been issued for release of the 2007
Season Schedule. What this means is over the next two months expect
lots of movement and even more rumors as to what the Great Lakes
Region may look like. Though the Eastern Lakes Division appears firm
with the new addition of Tri-City, anything could happen as the Grass
Roots Division will now be broke up for better alignment.

The Patriots are not the only team in the Eastern Lakes Division
searching for a Head Coach, Canada's new expansion team is still looking
to fill their void. However, they have took a different path to selecting their
staff. Prior to naming their Head Coach, the Titans have selected their
Offensive and Defensive Coordinators. Though it is possible their Head
Coach may be named from the new coordinators.
ON THE WIRE
Free agency is only weeks away as December is the last month of 2006
Season NAFL yearly contracts. It is pretty clear which athletes Patriot
management feels are the core ingredients to righting the ship. The
"Character First" method of recruiting has already built a tight knit group
of veterans and rookie signings. Though not every projected rookie will
be along for the ride.

Recent acquisition James Montemayor from Colorado will be returning to
Colorado Springs this January. Montemayor, a University of Kettering
student, has found that Kettering may not be the right fit for his long term
goals. Due to his change in venue, he will be released from camp.

Filling that spot in camp, among others will be recent additions:

Dan Yaklin, S, 6"2' 193 lbs. - Burton, Michigan
The former Flint Powers Catholic product looks to be one of the first
players to compete to fill the void at safety left by Jeff Tody's move to
outside linebacker. Yaklin was a member of legendary coach Jack Pratt's
Regional Championship team in 1998.

Raymond Warner, WR, 6"1' 180 lbs. - Birch Run, Michigan
A versatile athlete with a track background, Warner has experience as
both a receiver and defensive back and could find himself playing either
role on the depth chart. He scored a +3 in agility testing.

Information on more of the new Patriot signings will be found in each
addition of the Patriot Insider.
